BI Developer

Position: Azure BI Developer
Based: Abingdon
Type: Permanent/Full-Time
Salary: £55-65k DOE + Benefits

About the role:

RPS is establishing a central Data & Analytics function reporting into the Chief Data Officer. This team will be responsible for delivering reporting and analytics solutions and services to the business as well as to external clients. The team’s goal is to drive a data driven approach to decision making across RPS, ensuring all staff have access to trusted, accurate, and timely information. As well as enabling the business to monetise its data assets.

The Azure BI Developer role is responsible for developing and maintaining BI applications and solutions which deliver a single and trusted source for data and reporting to the business. It will support the Data & Analytics Platform Architect in developing and managing the Azure BI infrastructure. The role provides technical expertise in developing and maintaining the data migration between source systems and the data warehouse, in developing fit for purpose data marts, and in developing automated reporting solutions to support rapid BI and BI automation.

Key to the role is an understanding of SQL, TSQL, SQL Server, and Azure but other skillsets may need to be developed as the data landscape evolves.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create Azure based data storage solutions and data movements
• Develop, test, and roll-out effective Azure data repositories, such as databases, data lakes, data marts, blob storage, and analytics models to support the delivery of automated MI reporting, BI dashboards, advanced data discovery and analysis, and client facing data solutions.
• Develop Data Factory, SSIS, Logic App, and other data movement processes as required to support reporting, auditing, and other data needs in the business
• Leverage the relevant data management components such as Reference and Master Data Management, Data Governance, Data Quality, and Meta-data to maintain the integrity of the data warehouse and deliver best in class BI capability
• Perform Data Manipulation, Migration, and Management
• Design, develop, test, and maintain data extraction, transformation, and loading routines (ETLs) to bring relevant data from source systems to the BI Data Warehouse in line with BI and reporting requirements as defined by the Performance
• Support the delivery of the more complex reporting requirements in line with the business requirements as specified by the Power BI Developers
• Develop and implement error and exception management processes, ensuring causes of poor data quality are identified and escalated to the Data Quality Analyst and Data & Analytics Platform Architect
• Support data archiving, purging, and GDPR compliance processes by developing the required ETLs
• Ensure work is fully documented and referenced in line with agreed processes and formats

Education and experience
• Degree in computer science, information systems, or other related technical field
• At least 5 years demonstrable experience of developing schemas, queries, and procedures with MS SQL Server databases
• Proven experience of working and developing with Microsoft BI solutions (including SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS);
• Hands-on experience with developing in BI cloud technologies – preferably Azure
• agile development methodologies
• preparing data for data science and ML
• Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database issues such as integrity, performance, replication, connectivity, recovery, and security.

• Design and development of best practice ETL flows, data stores, dimensional models, cubes
• Fluency with appropriate tools including SQL Management Studio, Profiler, Performance Monitor and other SQL Server Management tools
• Knowledge of MS Dynamics 365 technology stack
• Proficient in writing SQL, T-SQL, C#, and PowerShell
• Applied knowledge of Agile software/Project delivery methodology
• Design and development of best practice ETL processes
• Data warehousing and best practice BI Architecture
• Data preparation (sourcing, acquisition, integration)
• Knowledge of Python
• Proficient with code versioning best practice and tools such as GIT/TFS/SVN
