Health & Safety Lead

RPS is a leading professional services company providing engineering, planning, environmental and communications consultancy, employing over 450 staff in Ireland and a global staff of some 5,600 across Europe, US and Australia principally. We have just launched an exciting new brand and we are profiling our new business strategy to our global clients.

We have a career opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety Lead in our Dublin office who will provide support to the RPS Health and Safety team.

The Candidate will ideally have:
• 15 years’ experience in Health and Safety management of large-scale infrastructure projects
• Formal safety qualification (e.g. FETAC / Diploma / Degree) ideally Chartered or currently working towards Chartered ship
• Ability to act as a Team Player with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with team working skills and analytical skills
• Thorough knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation and experience in the roles of PSDP and PSCS.
• Good understanding of H&S audit processes and procedures
• Experience of working with OHSAS18001 would be an advantage
• A track record in the delivery of major civil engineering infrastructure. Detailed understanding of Health & Safety legislation and regulations
• Contractor design review experience beneficial
• Ability to lead and motivate themselves and others; willingness to take ownership of issues and seek team participation to achieve best solutions
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations
• Ability to devise new approaches to problems encountered
• Excellent IT skills, familiar with relevant computer applications (MS Word and MS Excel in particular)
• Full clean Driver’s licence

Duties of the role shall include, but are not be limited to:
• Supporting our Health & Safety systems and teams in Dublin with further support across ROI
• Managing the PSDP and Design Safety role
• Monitoring and reporting on construction works being carried out as required
• Preparing excellent technical reports and presentations for internal and external use
• Ensuring Health and Safety legislative compliance
• Providing HS support / advice to management and staff members
• Developing improvement programmes to reduce risk
• Assisting in the updating of Health & Safety policies and procedures
• Assessing, organising and delivering appropriate HS training programmes to staff and clients, as required
• Coordinating risk assessments, Health & Safety audits and inspections along with maintenance of appropriate records
• Conducting investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses establishing causes and introducing accident and incident reduction / prevention programmes
• Providing support relating to tasks under the Construction Regulations
• Providing occasional consultancy support to various clients as required
