Due to an expanding client base and diversification in services offered, CgMs, part of the RPS Group, is seeking a highly motivated and thoroughly experienced built heritage and planning professional to provide a leadership role in the further development of the South West and West Midlands built heritage team (based in Cheltenham).

The historic buildings team offers a comprehensive built heritage planning service to a wide range of clients with diverse schemes that affect all types of built heritage assets across the UK. The service’s specific deliverables relate to built heritage and townscape issues; this includes the preparation of due diligence reports, heritage statements, listed building consent applications, conservation area appraisal/management plans, design advice, townscape and visual impact assessments, ES chapters for EIA, the management of historic building recording, the provision of expert witnesses at appeals, and input into emerging local plans and allocations.

CgMs has a strong collaborative team ethos based on professional support and mentoring. It is made up of a group of highly-skilled, committed and often passionate professionals. The built heritage team’s members have been drawn from a broad spectrum of backgrounds and the team includes: architects, landscape architects, surveyors, art historians, conservation officers, buildings archaeologists, planners and urban designers.

The successful candidate will relish the challenge of the diverse and exciting projects on offer. They will have a thorough knowledge of the planning system and how local authorities’ decision making works; they will be both supportive and challenging to their colleagues in their team leadership and mentoring roles; and have an outstanding talent for marketing and networking when building the team’s client base and work portfolio. The successful candidate will be educated to post-graduate level or equivalent, be a full member of the IHBC or other appropriate institute, have experience as an expert witness at appeal and EiP, and ideally will have had management training.
