Senior Ecologist
CambridgeWe are looking for an experienced ecologist to fill a senior position within our consultancy team. This is an excellent opportunity for ambitious professionals to join our large team of dedicated and enthusiastic ecologists based just outside Cambridge.
Applicants should ideally meet the following criteria:
• You must have at least 5 years experience of applying ecological principles to a range of projects, preferably within an environmental consultancy framework.
• You will require an in depth knowledge of wildlife law, including the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, EU Habitats Directive, EU Wild Birds Directive and in particular The Conservation (Natural Habitats, &c.) (Amendment) Regulations 2007.
• You will need to demonstrate your ability to identify and assess ecological constraints and produce clear reports that summarise the findings with recommendations for appropriate mitigation to ensure legal compliance. You will be competent to technically review the content of ecological reports produced by others, including chapters of EIAs and Appropriate Assessments.
• You must be experienced in undertaking initial Phase I habitat surveys and protected species assessments.
• You should possess protected species licences for survey or mitigation for at least two species. A Natural England licence to disturb bats for scientific purposes would be a distinct advantage.
• You must have staff management experience, as you will be responsible for developing more junior ecologists, and the desire and ability to act as a mentor and ensure the effective transfer of consultancy skills.
• You will undertake scoping, estimating and tendering for work so you should feel comfortable liaising and negotiating with clients.
• You will need to be proficient in managing projects, scheduling people and resources, so the ability to manage a project programme within budget is essential.
A driving license is essential.
