Senior Urban Designer

Profile
I joined the Urban Design team in RPS Bristol in 2005 as an assistant urban designer. I am a qualified Architect from Colombia and joined the company after completing an MA in Urban Design in 2004 at the University of Westminster.

After one year with the company I became an urban designer and in January 2007 I have been promoted to Senior Urban Designer.

Variety of Projects
During my time in RPS I have been involved in a wide variety of projects mostly located in the south west of England and Wales. I have gained a range of practical experience in site analysis, feasibility studies, master planning, design coding, supporting documents, public consultation and sustainable urban design.

Examples of projects I am currently involved include:
  • Plymstock Quarry, Plymouth: The site has been allocated within the city’s local plan for a mixed use development with capacity for up to 1600 dwellings, offices and retail uses. I am currently working within a multi disciplinary team of architects, landscape architects, planners, engineers and urban designers producing the Master plan, and supporting Design and Access Statement and Design Codes for this site.
  • Oteley Road, Shrewsbury: I am working on a feasibility study to provide a sustainable mixed use development in the suburbs of Shrewsbury. The site has the capacity to accommodate approx. 1200 units, an employment area and provide a primary school and local centre. The study includes the creation of a Vision for the site and the development of different concept Master plan options.
We are encouraged to work collaboratively with other departments and to use both the computer and hand drawn sketching to produce ideas.

Why choose RPS?
  • RPS is a unique multidisciplinary company with offices all over England and in different parts of the world.
  • It is a company with clear leadership and active participation by all
  • It offers excellent working conditions. During these two years in the company I have experienced directly how the promotion structure works and it has been a great motivation.
  • It gives you the opportunity to identify and implement creative solutions in your design and approach to projects.
