Hydrologist

Profile
I joined the Hydrology team in RPS Chepstow in 2004 as a Hydrologist, after completing a BSc in Geography at University of Wales, Swansea and a MSc in Environmental Water Management at Cranfield University at Silsoe.

Variety of Projects
Since I started at RPS I have been involved in a wide range of projects across the UK. I have been involved in water quality and quantity, flooding and drainage aspects for a range of projects. These projects have included major road improvement schemes, water quality aspects for discharge consents, flood risk assessments.

Since I started the work has been varied incorporating both office and site based work, which has lead to me gaining a wide variety of experience in many areas, including some work outside of hydrology.

Examples of projects I am currently involved include:
  • SWYMMBUS: This is a major road improvement scheme, which involves the potential for widening the M1 between Sheffield and Leeds. I have been involved in many of the hydrological aspects of this scheme. This has involved baseline monitoring of local watercourses, desk based assessments for the likely pollutant impacts from both the road runoff and accidental spillage, along with assessing the flood risk to the road and surrounding land.
  • Energy from Waste Plant, Nottinghamshire: I am working on a flood risk assessment and Environmental Statement for the construction of an energy from waste plant. This has incorporated an assessment of the flood levels, soakaway testing, water quality issues and conceptual SUDs design.
Why choose RPS?

  • Involvement in a variety of changing and varied projects;
  • A high level of responsibility;
  • A good combination of office and field work;
